Почему-то считается, что флибустьеры («vrijbuiter»  — по-голландски «вольный добытчик») чаще всего промышляли на море. Это не совсем так: скорее море являлось для них укрытием и домом, а сокровища они добывали и прятали в основном на берегу. Наша яхта называется «Freelancer» (свободный художник)  — это несколько иное чем «вольный добытчик», но принципы пиратства нам тоже не чужды. По моему возвращению из Ростова на яхту, мы решили высадить сухопутный десант на Беломорканал.

Идти на яхте 19 шлюзов в одну сторону, а потом 19 шлюзов обратно  — несколько бессмысленно с точки зрения фотографии (нашего промысла). Уйдет много бензина (по шлюзам и каналам движение только под мотором и не более 10 км в час), которого у нас нет и не на что купить, а делать фотографии с яхты  — это чаще лирические пейзажи и сьемки друг друга, что нам уже давно наскучило. Кроме того, судам запрещено стоять у большинства шлюзов. Поэтому логично поступить так, как это делали флибустьеры: высадиться на берег и пройти пешком вдоль Беломора. Снимать современных жителей канала и найти бывшие лагеря (ГУЛАГа), которых здесь множество вплоть до Белого моря.

Десант у нас не очень большой: Умелый моряк и я — капитан Очевидность (cpt. Obvious), как меня стали здесь называть. Однорукого штурмана мы вынуждены оставить на яхте: охранять наш дом и технически настроить интернет версию Вахтенного журнала, а также подготовить публикации для публичного М-Журнала.

Местные жители нам не советуют двигаться пешком вдоль каналов по причине огромного количества комаров и присутствия (меньшего количества) медведей. Против «таежных вампиров» у нас есть оружие, но против медведей, увы, ничего нет. Моя мама  — больший протестант, чем Мартин Лютер  — запретила мне взять в путешествие пистолет, а я не хотел противостоять ее христианским принципам и оставил оружие дома.

Однако мы решили взять в тайгу две SOS-ракетницы (красные), которые штатно находятся на яхте. Вряд ли это поможет против зверя, но нам придаст некоторую уверенность и чувство защищенными. Так мы думаем.

Около недели мы стоим на входе в Беломорканал, и за это время ни одно судно в канал не вошло. Трафик здесь такой  — одно судно в неделю. Максимум. Поэтому рассчитывать на проходящие суда нам тоже не приходится. Беломорканал, построенный в результате десятков тысяч человеческих жертв, абсолютно не рентабелен в наше время. Даже подводные лодки, которые здесь проводили во времена Холодной войны, нами не замечены, да и местные люди говорят, что подводного флота нет точно так же, как и надводного.

Мы выходим сегодня после обеда. Возьмем какие-то консервы, спальники и сигареты. Все по минимуму, чтобы можно было не только передвигаться с камерами, но и снимать. Мы не знаем, когда вернемся на яхту, но надеемся встретить по пути Екатерину Соловьеву и Алексея Мякишева, которые будут двигаться навстречу нам (не понятно, каким способом) с Соловецких островов. Так или иначе, после нашей встречи мы снимемся с якоря и пойдем на Юг  — на Волгу.

For some reason it is believed that filibusters («vrijbuiter» – “free getter” in Dutch) hunted on the sea more often. It is not quite so, more likely the sea was a shelter and home for them, and they got treasures and hid them basically ashore. Our yacht is called “Freelancer” (Free artist) it is a bit different than “free getter”, but code of a piracy is not alien to us too. On my return to the yacht from Rostov, we have decided to land troops to the White Sea Canal.

We consider it is a little senseless from the photography point of view (our craft) to go on the yacht passing through 19 sluices to one way, then 19 sluices – back: it will take a lot of gasoline (it is only possible to go with an engine and no more then 10 km per hour on sluices and canals) which we haven’t and can’t buy. Besides taking photos from the yacht — it is more often lyrical landscapes and each other photos that we have been bored a long ago. Moreover vessels are not allowed to stand at the majority of sluices. Therefore it is logical to do as filibusters did – to go ashore and to pass on foot along the White Sea Canal: to take photos of modern inhabitants of the canal and find the former camps (Gulag), there are a lot of them here up to the White Sea.

Troopers are not very big: the Skilful Seaman and I — Captain Obvious as the guys began to call me here. We had to leave the one-armed navigator on the yacht – to protect our house and technically to set up the Internet version of the yacht’s Logbook, and also to prepare publications for public M-magazine.

Local people do not advise us to move on foot along canals because of a huge amount of mosquitoes and (smaller amount) of bears. We have a weapon against “taiga vampires”, but we have nothing against bears, alas. My mum being more Protestant than Martin Luther  forbade me to take a gun to the trip, and I did not want to confront her Christian principles and left the gun at home.

However, we decided to take two SOS-Flares (red) in taiga which are regularly on the yacht. Hardly it will help against the beast, but it gives us some confidence to feel safe. We think so.

About one week we are standing at the entrance to the White Sea Canal and no one vessel entered the canal. Here is the traffic: one vessel a week. It is maximum. That’s why we can’t rely on passing vessels. The White Sea Canal, constructed in the result of tens thousands of human victims, is absolutely not profitable in our time. We didn’t see even any submarines which were here at the time of Cold War, and local people say that there is no as submarine fleet as well as surface fleet.

We leave this afternoon. We take remained canned food, sleeping bags and cigarettes. The minimum of everything so that we could not only to move along but take pictures. We do not know when we will return to the yacht, but we hope to meet on the way Caterina Solovyeva and Alexey Mjakishev who will go towards us (It is not clear what way) from the Solovetsky Islands. Anyhow, after our meeting, we will weigh anchor and we go the South – to Volga.
